Fraternal Breakfast

During May this year MES CT organised a breakfast where the Bellville Fraternal had the opportunity to let their hair down.

One of the activities of the morning involved teams of two to write new lyrics for an existing song, and then stepping out of their comfort zone by performing these new songs to the rest of the attendees. The enthusiastic fraternal members enjoyed a good laugh and showed off their great talents.

On a more serious note, MES CT shared their vision about starting a “moral regeneration” programme which will involve the whole community in reviewing their own morals and daily decisions which influences not only their own lives but the lives of others including the people living on the street. Valuable input was shared by each member of the fraternal and a very successful and fun filled morning was had.

Dribble for Hope Youth Day Soccer Event

MES, together with Shiloh Synergy and UASA hosted an exciting Soccer Day for the less fortunate kids from Wallacedene on Youth Day this year. The aim of this day was to give these kids the opportunity to share in the excitement that the Soccer World Cup brought to South Africa and at the same time teach them a few life skills.

Mr Wouter Swart, a youth worker at the Bellville West Church, developed a soccer programme based on the concept of The Ultimate Goal (TUG) which teaches kids basic life skills demonstrated through practical soccer techniques.

The kids received goodie bags with sweets, toiletries, fleece tops and beanies as well as a substantial breakfast and lunch. Eddie Andrews, the well-known Springbok, WP and Stormers rugby player, made a guest appearance and shared a few inspirational words. As Eddie was raised in the Mitchell’s Plain area in Cape Town, he has a deep understanding of the needs and troubles these kids deal with on a daily basis.

Over and above sponsoring the activities of the day, UASA donated a substantial amount to MES which has been applied to the development of the entrepreneurial and skills development projects ‘Back to the Cross’ and ‘Fresh Start’.

Other companies who also contributed to the success of the day were Pick ‘n Pay and ElJoSa Travel and Tours.
