MES CHESS - ABOUT US

MESHCC mission statement is to:

“provide a nourished community environment with modern creative projects, expert information and stage world class events to produce the world’s best champions”

MES Hyenas Chess Club (MESHCC) was initiated by MES in January 2009 based on chess players playing in Joubert Park as a tool to empower our communities holistically against the rising of crime and unemployment in Hillbrow and surrounding areas. One of the main objectives of the Chess Club is to provide a chess course as a Life Skill programme as we will quote one of the favorable quotes in chess ‘when you have found a good move, don’t play it, but look for a better one’ Likewise in life, one should learn to be creative and conduct a broader research before making decisions.

We believe and have proven without doubts that such principles in somebody’s life can be very useful in decision-making, creativity, researching, calculations, strategizing, planning, visualizing, tactical, accuracy and sharpening analytical thinking skills!!!

We offer a free chess course to the community that includes an expert chess training from our leading superstars International Master (IM) JP Mabusela, 2010 South African Chess Champion KK Mosetle backed by a Strong Pack of dazzling chess champions. See more on our activities.

Prospects and achievements:

  • The club’s immediate impact in the chess dome has laid a strong foundation for our initiative to achieve its mission, goals and objectives, we are widely acknowledged with great optimism and praised country wide, after our first year (2009) winning of Gold Medal in the provincial chess league of 2009 Gauteng Chess League (GCL) first division to qualify for Premier Division and finishing fourth in the 2009 South African National Club’s Championship in Bloemfontein!
  •  In our 2010 A team first attempt at GCL Premier Division we finished fourth and our B & C teams qualified for second division.
  •  We recognize our initiative as a well placed modern institution to empower our society with modern creative projects that will ensure rapid all-round community development for decades to come. Chess on its own is a tool that can be used by anybody irrespective of gender, age, position or religion to train and equip individual’s brain to be an efficient thinker.

“Chess provides ability to analyze a problem, plan its solution, and then carrying out that plan is life’s most important skill. Chess hones this ability in a unique way and dramatically effective fashion. Chess also develops talents for rapid calculating probabilities – spotting opportunities and balancing risks against rewards. At the same time it also cultivates willingness to stick to one strategy!!!”  -Samurai Chess book, Mastering the martial art of the mind by Raymond Keen and Michael Gelb
